Blow mold technology, the process of creating hollow plastic parts, was first acquired by the Hartford Empire Company in 1938. However, it wasn’t until much later that the technology was advanced enough to offer a variety of applications. In the 60s and 70s, holiday decor blow mold items started to become available, decorating homes across America.
As these are such an iconic retro Christmas item, we thought it would be fun to send a blow mold Santa out to the neighborhoods to spread holiday cheer! Similar to the concept of “booing” the neighbors at Halloween, we attached a sign around Santa with instructions: to enjoy Santa for one night, then to secretly deliver him to a neighbor’s porch. With the concept that the neighbor will then forward to another neighbor and so on. To monitor Santa’s progress, we also included our email address so that Santa recipients can report what city/state Santa is now in. It will be interesting to see how far Santa travels, and we will report on his progress on our Facebook page!
