You know when you have one of those ideas that just make you so giddy you can hardly sit still? Or a project that comes together just like you envisioned it? Those moments are so wonderful when the stars are aligned and it all comes together.
I have been sitting on a box of vintage doorplates for a while now. Admiring them, but circling around what exactly to do with them. Until it hit me…use them as a magnetic board of sorts! Create lovely magnets, and attach them to the vintage door plates…what a great form of packaging a magnetic gift!
To add a bit more texture to these lovely bits of hardware, I made tags from vintage tickets. The tags I sprayed with an aqua glitter spray, then added a bit of crackling. I then pinned vintage flower seals to the tickets, and embellished a bit more with gems, flowers, keys, etc.
For the magnets themselves I used vintage buttons, antiqued bottlecaps, rhinestones, hardware embellishments and beads. Making magnets is a great way to let those beautiful doodads you have take center stage.
Beautiful ribbons top off the doorplates, giving another contrast in texture…
I had a bit of fun with this project, and until the next idea comes along, no vintage doorplate is safe! As these will really make unique birthday, Mother’s Day, teacher appreciation or otherwise Spring gifts, I have a few in the Etsy store. You can find them HERE. Wouldn’t a magnetic doorplate and a box of beautiful stationary make a lovely gift???
Now, if only the weather outside looked as Springy as these doorplates!
