Powder Room Pretty and a little card too

Can you believe this started out as an ugly little canvas painting from the dollar store?  Well, it did!  I just turned it around and tore the paper backing off to create a little shadowbox frame.  To cover the wood areas of the canvas I used paper from the Dimestore Vogue kit and cut it into strips and glued them to the wood.  Then I used the VSM Soot Tinted tape on the inside and outside edges.  I used the pretty paper doll in her undies from the family fun set from VSM, as well as the papers inside the shadowbox.  I used the absolutely beautiful flower from Maya road in the corner, and also from Maya road, the chipboard cameo pieces.  I painted the silhouette black, and used embossing powder to coat the other pieces.  I used some vintage fringe and lace for the trim.  Here are a couple pics close up:

Of course since it is October, you know I have to make a little halloweeny something, so I created this little Halloween Party invitation:

I took the black and white polka dot paper from the family fun kit from VSM and colored it orange with ink.  The little paper dolls and costumes are from the family fun set, and the Circus Game embellishment was cut from the party games kit and I used foam tape to pop it up.  I also added a little lace and a button.  The inside of the card reads: “get on your spiffiest halloween costume and join us for a party”.  Well Thats it for this month, catch ya in November, hope you were inspired to create something fabulous with some of the wonderful Vintage Street Market products.

Fashionable Embellie Storage…and a WINNER!

6 Comments | Leave a new comment

We have been having such a fun time creating with Maya Road! This project by Cheryl McAdam is one I can almost promise you, you’ll want to make for yourself. So clever, cute and practical!

Cheryl’s Notes:

I chose to use the adorable chipboard purse album for my project, but instead of using it for photos I made a little tote for my scrappy embellies and ribbons when I go to a crop.  I always end up taking way more stuff than I need to a crop and then spend half my time digging through it to find what I need.  The chipboard pages in the album are perfect for wrapping your ribbon around and I put little velum envelopes on one of the pages for little doodads like gems or buttons. I used papers from the VSM Dimestore Vogue line and the Tinted Tape (Aged), and everything else is Maya Road(except the ribbon inside the album).  Aren’t those little scissors and thread spools stinkin’ cute?

(Ok, I have to say, I just LOVE how Aged Tinted Tape makes this look like faux wood! So cool, and a great tip! Thanks Cheryl!)

See? Now, don’t you want to make a little storage unit for your special vintage embellishments?? :)

Dimestore Vogue projects

Hi all, Cheryl here with some projects made using the Vintage Street Market Dimestore Vogue kit and the Unity stamp set “sew Cute”.  What a perfect match, these stamps and the paper kit!  I am not usually much of a cardmaker, but I have found recently that I never seem to have a card handy when I need them.  Kinda silly since I’m a papercrafter, lol.  So, I decided to make this fun little notecard, and then more, and more, and well, you get the picture.  I needed something to hold all these cards so I dug through my stash and found this cute tin to put them in.

I covered the top of the tin with paper and tags from the Dimestore Vogue kit, and then added the chipboard dress form from Basically Bare.

I used the aged VSM tape to attach the edges of the paper to the tin, then I added some vintage measuring tape around the sides.

I created the flower by die cutting flower shapes out of pattern tissue and gathering several layers together at the center and adhering a button in the center.  You know what I really love about these paper kits?  I have made several projects with this one, and I still have tons of stuff left!  Good thing, cause I have more projects in store for you using dimestore vogue, and the adorable stamp set from unity.  Thanks for looking!

Inspiration Week Wrap Up…

We hope you enjoyed all of the amazingly creative projects created with Vintage Street Market and Basically Bare products. I know we all have been enjoying working with them!

We have one last project to show today from Cheryl McAdam:

Hi all, Cheryl here

I just want to start out by saying how much I loved making this album.  I have had these photos for eons, waiting for the perfect products to make an album with.  The Vintage Street Market Family Fun paper kit was just what I was waiting for.  It has a cool 50’s era feel which is perfect for the time period I was working with (1952 to 1970) but not so much that you can’t use it for other things.  I  don’t have enough photos and memorabilia from this time to create a 12×12 album, but a little too much for a 6×8 or 8×8 album so this book from Basically Bare was just perfect for what I wanted to do.  It has so many cool elements to it: Corrugated cardboard, chipboard, canvas, Kraft envelopes and acrylic tags!  You could truly go crazy with this album! You can remove and rearrange the pages too if need be.  I wanted to make the album  in “old School” style so I used the tinted tape to attach some of the photos to the pages.  I had some old cancelled checks that were my parents to I used those to get the information I put on the envelopes and then stored the checks in the envelopes.  I love that!  I am a memorabilia freak, so the fact that this book had envelopes in it was really a bonus.  I had so much fun playing with the paper dolls from the kit, I couldn’t stop!  I used to love playing with paper dolls when I was a kid.  Yes, that’s me on the sister pages, I think from 1968 to 1970.  The family on the front of the album is the paper dolls and I dressed them all up for the cover, lol. I used the Tinted tape around the edges of each page to give the album a slightly distressed appearance.  On the canvas page I stitched a piece of lace to the bottom to create a pocket for more memorabilia.  There are just a ton of things you can do with this line of cardstock and embellishments and the album.   I hope you have as much fun with these great products as I did.

Learning to Sew

1 Comment | Leave a new comment

One of the things I love about the Vintage Street Market kits is that you have everything you need to create a great layout right there in the package(ok, except adhesive), but seriously, the only extra items I added that weren’t in the kit was a couple pieces of fabric, a button, and the aged tape.  Oh, and don’t let me get started on that fabulous tape(VSM).  There are several styles to choose from.  For this layout I used the “aged” style to adhere my photo.  I cut out the two ladies and popped them up with Scrapbook Adhesives foam squares.  For the flower, I used the side of paper that looks like a sewing pattern and cut out some flower shapes with a die.  And for my daughter Jordans adventures in sewing, this was pretty much it.  I had hoped she would do more, but at least she knows how to hem something.

For my next project I made a fun little Birthday card using the Party Games kit:

Isn’t that monkey just stinkin’ cute? I used a piece of red cardstock for the background and cut a piece of the paper with the monkey on it to fit as the background.  I cut out the banner image and popped it up with more foam squares from Scrapbook Adhesives.  I punched out the image with the lollipops and layered the diamond that says happy over that.  The little ticket is also from the punch out sheet.  I added a few pieces of birthday ribbon and some stickles here and there and voila, a cute and cheery little birthday card.

Thanks for looking, and don’t forget to take a peek and some of the previous blog posts to see the new 2011 releases!
