4th pennant 1

Happy 4th of July!

I hope you are having a wonderful time with your family and friends over this long weekend!

I love the 4th of July….family BBQs, watermelon and lots of cherries and strawberry shortcake. And, of course, beautiful fireworks. The simplicity in the celebration is very appealing, and it brings everyone together. Love that.

My husband and I went to see the new movie Free State of Jones on Friday night.  Truly, the Civil War was a sad event in our nation’s history, and it was incredible to learn the depth of the conflict on so many levels. Very interesting. So many sacrifices made in our young history as a country, and so many things for us to be thankful for, and to still learn.

To celebrate Independence Day, I put together this firecracker of a centerpiece. You know how much I love making pennants! They really are a great way to display vintage doo-dads and ephemera.

Have a great weekend, and Happy 4th!!

memorial-dayAs we enjoy the time with our family and friends this weekend, I want to take a moment to thank those service men and women who have protected and continue to protect, our freedoms. I thank you for your service-you are true heroes.

Happy 4th of July!!!

I so enjoy the 4th of July. It is one holiday that truly unifies all of us, and is not focused on commercialism. It is one of those holidays, where everyone just enjoys being together and participating in good old-fashioned fun: parades, BBQs, fireworks..

And, with recent world events, and the Boston Marathon tragedy on our soils, we will savor our FREEDOM all the more, and GIVE THANKS to those service men and women who work daily to protect that freedom. THANK YOU!!!

This vintagey, 4th of July treat pocket definitely shows off the patriotism! Assembling vintage elements into a collage is a great way to show off many little vintage tidbits, and to use scraps. This project uses vintage tickets, and patriotic seals found in our Patriotic store. Also, break out those decorative scissors again and create unique trims! The bottom of this pocket is trimmed with a bit of a zig-zagged scrap.

And punches! Emphasize the edges of a punched out image with stickles.  Use ink to soften the edges of your projects.  I used gold ink on the edges here…

This treat pocket is temporarily stuffed with vintage lace, but very soon will have yummy treats in it!

Have a safe and Happy 4th of July holiday with your families today!

Summer Colors

Hi there everyone!  It’s Amy and I am back this month to share some red, white, and blue projects I made using VSM products.  I only seem to use these color combos during the summer months, hence my post title.  A lot of people think of soft pastels for this season but I am stuck on these and hope you like what I created for you today.

First is a card I made that could be used for a birthday, congratulations, or even holiday.

I punched stars using the shiny aqua  foil  from the Dimestore Vogue Paper Sheets and Tags.  I also created a doily border for the top and bottom.  The large red “notes” journalling card  is from the red Twirly Twine package.  I punched three scallop circles using the red gingham print from the Family Fun Paper Kit.  I layered these on the stars and then added white buttons and red rhinestones.  At the bottom I stapled a celebrate ticket from the denim Twirly Twine.   To finish, I tied denim  bows from Twirly Twine.  Just wanted to mention that the Paper Sheets and Tags are on sale so grab them while you can!  You can make so many crafty items with this kit that features gorgeous heavy weight paper, that includes multiple texture paper such as the crepe, plus everything you need to accent your project with die cuts and embellishments.  Doesn’t get any easier than that!

My last card is a birthday card using the same color scheme.

I matted a piece from Family Fun Paper Kit to the left and then punched a red foil border using my Party Games Paper Sheets and Tags.  I used a blue stripe paper from my scraps for the last panel on the card.  I layered a Bingo card and wrapped red Twirly Twine around it and secured with a bow and button.  A scrap piece of burlap was added with a celebrate ticket from the red Twirly Twine package for texture.  The Twirly Twine packs are so fun with tickets and twine!  A great value too! The die cut doll  from the Family Fun Accessory Kit was adhered with dimensional dots and then I stamped a birthday sentiment to complete.

That’s my projects for the month of July.  I hope you like and see you next month!

Red, White, Blue…and Summer Too!

Hello there, everybody…it’s Keri here, with a layout & altered jar to share with you.

First up today is a Red, White, and Blue layout…showcasing photos of my daughter at her school’s patriotic assembly this past year:

She was in charge of reading the account of Paul Revere’s Ride, and she was so excited & nervous!

I die-cut some thin stars with the red foil from the Party Games collection…it cuts so well, even with this thin, delicate shape!  The background paper & border are from the Family Fun collection.

I used several colors of twirly twine for the bow, and added some embossing+ink to the Bingo Card for a fun accent.

The dictionary paper from the  Vintage Ephemera kit was a perfect fit for this patriotic page, with words like “government, governance” and definitions including words like “British colonies.”  I loved adding this vintage touch to enhance the layout theme!

My next project is  a fun summer treat jar for my children:

I used my favorite little girl image from the Party Games collection here…showcasing her with a star foil frame (the negative space from my previous layout project).

More twirly twine & some crepe paper embellished the lid, along with a cute vintage milk cap from the VSM store.

Hope you enjoy these fun projects…let them inspire you to get crafting with twine, foil, crepe, and ephemera!… Read the rest
