Decorative Tape Twistie Ties

Decorative-tape-twist-ties-1

Hi there! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! Ours was spent enjoying the Colorado Rockies, and admiring the GORGEOUS aspen trees! I’ve got pics of this to share at the bottom of this post, but first, a quick, fun tutorial!

There is no doubt that decorative tape is still HUGE on the creative crafty scene. This includes washi tapes, fabric tapes, decorative duct tape, and our very own Vintage Street Market Tinted Tape. Since we are on the brink of the holiday whirlwind where treat bags and little gifts will be passed around like crazy, I thought the Decorative Tape Twistie Tie Tutorial would be pretty timely.

This is such a simple, high impact little project, and a great way to dress up a treat bag! To make this bundle of twistie ties, simply select your decorative tape of choice and cut a length of it. Then, sticky side up, tape down the decorative tape at the ends to a piece of paper, or a craft mat. Then, cut a length of wire, and position down the center of the tape. “Sandwich” the wire with another strip of decorative tape. Remove from the mat, cut the ends, and voila! a great decorative twistie tie, that looks adorable bundling up small treats!

Cute, cute, cute for Halloween! Oh, and for Christmas goodies down the road! This treat bag below is tied off with a Soot Tinted Tape twistie tie. The Tinted Tape is actually a bit more durable than the more delicate washi tapes for this purpose, as the washi tapes can tear if twisted too much.

So, easy peasy! Are you ready to make your own batch of twistie ties??? To prepare for all of the fun Fall events and holidays, Tinted Tape is now available in the store as a 4-pack bundle for the great crafting price of $4.95! That’s about 300 yards of decorative tape…wow, that’s a bunch of twistie ties! 🙂  You can find this tape assortment HERE.

Now, the fabulous mountain photos! This is the first time I’ve actually seen the aspen turn orange and red. So beautiful and absolutely striking against the dark pine trees. The photos simply do not do them justice! Late Sept/October is also the time you can hear the elk bugling. This is the elk mating season, and the time in which the bulls are gathering their herd of cows. The bulls bugle to attract the cows and to ward off other “competitors.” We went into Rocky Mountain National Park and were able to hear a few of the bulls. The echo of their bugle in the mountains was pretty amazing.

Vintage Halloween Wall-Hanging

vintage-halloween-wallhanging-1Well, we have one more week until Autumn is officially upon us. I have to say, I certainly am enjoying the cooler temps…not quite ready for the snow just yet though!

Today I want to share with you a new kit I just put into the Etsy store. This wall-hanging is really not difficult to put together, and will make for a spooky decor item that will last year after year. 🙂 The finished project measures approximately 11″ wide by 18″ tall.

vintage-halloween-wallhanging-2This kit includes beautifully spooky patterned paper, cut and layered onto a haunted scene. Vintage-style crepe fringe adds additional texture, and mini black clothes pins, attached to a vintagey, wooden Halloween hanger cleverly display this Halloween Greeting.

vintage-halloween-wallhanging-4I know I tend to get a bit excessive on the glitter, so the kit includes everything except the black and platinum Stickles that I used on this example. This wall-hanging will be eerily fabulous with or without glitter!

This kit also includes full color instructions, and will take approx. 1-2 hours to complete. What a fun project to do with friends! A great time to chat, trim, glue and snack on candy corn. 🙂

Happy Creating, and enjoy the last week of Summer!

Vintage Pumpkin People Treat-Bag Clips

3 Comments | Leave a new comment

vintage-pumpkin-people-clips-1aOK everyone…group photo! Ha! May have to do that one again-those smiles are looking a little grim. 🙂

Do you  remember as a child going trick or treating, and always loving the house that would hand out  AN ENTIRE TREAT BAG! Wow, that was the greatest! And, you’d tell your friends as you saw them, which house to go to. Now, as an adult, I have to admire the ones who were brave enough to do that, as our neighborhood must have had at least several hundred kids! I have to say, I am that person that hands out the treat bag, but sadly, or in this case maybe fortunately, we only get a couple dozen trick or treaters.

vintage-pumpkin-people-clips-1Even if you get a lot of trick or treaters, this idea is so quick and simple (and FUN!), you probably could pull it off for a large group of kids.  These vintage pumpkin people treat-bag clips were assembled using vintage imagery, a black clothes pin and pipe cleaners.

vintage-pumpkin-people-clips-3I cut a pipe cleaner in half, and twisted the two halves together in the center. For the legs, I wrapped the pipe cleaner around a pencil to curl them, and simply bent the arms into a ghoulish “I’m gonna get ya” pose. I then glued the pipe cleaners to a vintage image and then glued the black clothes pin to the back center.  These pumpkin people seal off a small black treat sack, on which I inked the edges gold, and punched a “TREATS” title using a Dymo label punch.

vintage-pumpkin-people-clips-4I think both kids and adults could enjoy a spooky treat bag like this!

vintage-pumpkin-people-clips-2If you’re not inspired to create your own vintage pumpkin people clips, these little guys are also available in the Etsy store for your special treats this Halloween. 🙂

You can find them HERE.

Perfumed Pillows…and EXCITING NEWS!

3 Comments | Leave a new comment

perfumed-pillows-1I just LOVE vintage clear glass jewelry…necklaces, brooches, earrings, I love it all! And, the more yellowed, or “chippy” they are, the better! They just have such a gorgeous richness to them. What I don’t like though, is that they are hidden in my jewelry box.  I’ve seen some of these pillow ideas popping up on Pinterest, and thought  I would adapt my own version, and came up with a great way to display some of this vintage bling.

perfumed-pillows-2This little project is so easy, that anyone can do it…even if sewing isn’t your thing. To get a variety of texture, I decided to make wool pillows, and scoured the local Good Will for a tightly knit wool sweater. I immediately then came home, and tossed it into the washing machine on full HOT water, then tossed into a hot dryer. Have to say, it felted nicely!

I then decided on the pillow shapes and cut squares and rectangles to that size. Once cut, flip the sides over so that the right sides are facing each other.  Then, its simply a matter of straight stitching 3 of the sides, turning the right side back out, stuffing with fluff, and stitching the last side by hand.

I then sprayed each pillow with perfume-an ultra feminine touch that makes these little pillows also function as sachets. Vintage satin ribbon makes a gorgeous bow and the perfect backdrop for the vintage bling buttons and brooch that decorate these pillows. So quick to put together! These would be a gorgeous gift/favors for a bridal shower or maybe a Valentine’s Day present for your special girl friends. And, what a great way to show off the vintage jewels, when bundled in a little basket.

perfumed-pillows-3Now onto the exciting news!

The new issue of Holidays & Celebrations hit the newsstands this week. That, in and of itself is always exciting! But, I am also very thrilled to say that one of my vintage valentine projects was accepted into this issue!!!! The magazine, as always, is full of amazing projects and artists, and I’m so excited that my Vintage Valentine Pennants are among them. Be sure to get a copy, as you’ll be inspired by all of the ideas for the upcoming holidays!
