Vintage Baskets of Little Peeps

Peep, peep!

I am sooooo ready for Spring! We’ve had some teaser days of it here in Northern Colorado, but then we’ll get a snowy day to remind us that Winter is not done yet. Thankfully, creating with spring-like materials helps a little bit.

These little chicks are so sweet, and I thought they would look just adorable nestled in these vintage nut baskets. Unfortunately, as these nut baskets come from the 50s, the delicate handles didn’t survive over the years. So, in their place, I used pipe cleaners, which I think work just as well.

vintage-chicks-3I trimmed the pipe cleaners with a ribbon and a vintage, hard plastic flower, and, nestled the chicks in vintage Easter grass. Which, I know first hand, is from the 70s, as this is the exact same grass that was in my Easter basket as a child. 🙂

vintage-chicks-2I think they look kind of happy, don’t you? I’ve made several of these little baskets, and they are on their way to the af.fin.ity Boutique for their Grand Opening celebration this Saturday.

Spring Deer on Parade

vintage-spring-deer-1Who says deer are only for Christmas??? I love how deer images are popping up all over-they are such elegant and graceful creatures. I was so happy to find this little herd of vintage-style, aqua flocked deer figures. So sweet and so retro! But, they needed just a little embellishing.

Vintage Forget-Me-Nots and lace ribbon did the trick. And, of course, glitter!  They look elegant enough to pull a princess’ carriage. 🙂 Or, more practically, to grace a springy display. These are just a few of the items that can be found at the af.fin.ity Boutique.

If you are in Northern Colorado, be sure to visit the af.fin.ity Boutique on Saturday, Feb. 21st from 1 to 5pm for their Grand Opening Celebration! So many wonderful vendors-its an event not to miss! Details can be found on their Facebook page HERE.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

This issue has been out on newsstands for a few months now, but I’m still giddy that the Vintage Valentine Pennants I featured on the blog last Valentine’s Day appear in this amazing magazine!!!! Did you pick up your copy? There are so many amazing, inspiring ideas for all of the holidays!

publicationFor this Valentine’s Day, I created another pair of pennants. Pennants are such a novel way to use up scraps and little bits of ephemera. Put them in a vase of flowers, tape to a cabinet door, or tie to the top of a present. Super cute!

This pair of pennants was made using one vintage valentine, cut into 2 pieces, so that they coordinate well together. A vintage Bingo card cut on the diagonal, creates the base, and patterned cardstock stitched across the Bingo card, helps the valentine images “pop.” Just love this sweet little boy with the floppy bow tie. I think this valentine dates from the 30’s, but has some really vibrant coloring, that is more often found in retro valentines from the 50’s.

valentinepennants3 valentinepennants4 Once the pennants were assembled, I simply hot-glued a wooden dowel along the side. With all of the layering, these are really nice and stiff and sturdy. Great Valentine decor for years to come!

I hope you have an extra-special Valentine’s Day, and are able to share it with those you love.

Vintage Wish Bottles

Happy, happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend.

Ah, the power of a wish. I think to many of us, a wish is an elusive idea that we sigh over…I wish I had more time, money, a smaller waistline, or a cleaner/organized/nicely decorated house. Coming from the month of New Year’s resolutions, I’m sure these wishes are fresh in everyone’s mind.

Or maybe, the wish is for something grander.

These vintage cigar tubes, filled with vintage glass glitter, vintage pearl beads and vintage mini ornaments are the perfect reminder that our wishes can be contained, and not only that, they can be realized by our very own actions. Wishes do not have to be an elusive idea at all!

Our wishes are important and deserve to be wrapped in a sparkly package. The addition of a magic wand certainly doesn’t hurt! 🙂

Knowing that your wishes are under your very own control, I hope all of your wishes come true, and that you have an abundance of them!
